The sustainability trend has been around for a while now and is definitely not a new trend in the Tourism and Hospitality industry. According to a recent Booking.com survey, 83% of global travelers have believed sustainable travel is vital, in which 61% admitted that they prefer to travel sustainably in the future as a result of the pandemic. Due to increased customer social awareness toward the environment, hoteliers are putting in the spot to pay back to society. Hotels are thriving to implement sustainable practices at their businesses, showing their side of making the efforts trying to be environmentally friendly.
However, to turn “green” hotels have to invest heavily in the infrastructure. If they have not yet been built, it will become much easier in planning for upcoming hotel design and actual building. It gets trickier with the existing hotels as remodeling would cost quite a burden on their financial statement. While some are eager to take on this “greener” journey, others are hesitating and having second thoughts on whether or not this trend would last.
